CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Charles Francis Xavier
Age/Date of Birth: 30/November 15, 1932
Sexuality:
Charles largely seems attracted to women as he grew attached to Moira MacTaggart and kissed her by the end of the film. However, he also had no qualms with erasing her memory which suggests that as of this moment isn't looking for anything lasting. He enjoys bar crawling and using his awful pickup lines on the ladies, but he draws the line with those he is especially close to, like Raven. He considers her to be a sister to him in every way and would never think of looking at her in otherwise.

His relationship with Erik definitely has enough subtext to become text, especially within comic canon. An attraction of some sort is probably there, but Charles would never consciously think there is or ever act on it without some sort of catalyst.

Housing: 1 bedroom please, other than that - random! Would be willing to be a Housing Assistant after getting acclimated to the present in game if there's need for someone later.
Prospective Job: tutor, researcher
SHIELD: Very interested! At this point in his life Charles is in pretty deep with working with the government and that kind of thing would be something familiar. He's just starting to help mutants develop their powers, but it is a pretty specialized thing and he'd like to be a teacher first, geneticist second.

Fandom: X-men First Class
Medium: Movie
Canon point: toward the end of the film, during the Blackbird crash
Arrival Date: game open
PB: James McAvoy

Personality:
In an interview James McAvoy describes Charles Xavier as “a bit of a cad” and that is a good place to start with who he is and how he differs from the older Charles that fans of the series have come to know. He is playful and mischievous, having no trouble talking to new people. However, this is tempered with a certain sense of decorum, he’s not a person to randomly pull pranks on people because of “LOL TROLL”. Though he is not shy, Charles is soft spoken and well mannered. He does his best to treat everyone he comes in contact with with respect. His inclination toward kindness is not to be mistaken for weakness. Charles puts his foot down if he knows someone is trying to get the best of him and doesn’t tolerate bullies.

He is a strong believer in equality for all and his original character concept was a parallel to Martin Luther King, Jr. Charles is willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, a fact that comes back to bite him many times in canon. This is a combination of equal parts naivete and arrogance. He genuinely believes that people can be redeemed of any sins or hurt in their past and he thinks that he can be the one to bring about change. He does know his limitations and that he is only one man, but that does not stop him from trying. He is not too proud to ask for help, but in most cases he wants to be that help instead.

Charles does his best to present himself with an air of dignity, especially after becoming a professor. This tends to fall by the wayside after a few drinks or with close friends. He wants people to trust him and feels like it’s only natural for those he cares about to see past the rigid professor mask. Yet even in ‘professor mode’ he does his utmost to be friendly and welcoming, especially with new students or while talking about his passion for genetics. Now that he knows there are other people in the world like him who carry the x-gene, he very much wants to meet more of them. He’s very persistent in his goals, but especially this one, and sometimes needs a person who is not so attached to his current project to tell him to quit.

History:
The X-men First Class version of Charles’ history differs greatly from his comic roots. I’ll be defaulting to film version of events but filling in a few gaps with comic history.

Charles was born in 1932 in South London to Brian and Sharon Xavier. Brian was a nuclear scientist and encouraged Charles’ interest in science and academia from a very early age. Sharon was a bit distant as a mother, but even as a boy Charles had the tendency to become preoccupied with his goals that while he noticed, Sharon’s absence was something that could be ignored in favor of Other Things. When Charles is ten, Brian is offered a job in the United States and the Xavier family moves to Westchester County, New York. This version of Charles does not have Cain Marko as a stepbrother, instead he has Raven Darkholme as a foster sister instead as per the film who he meets at the age of twelve. Brian dies in an accident, and his partner and friend of the family, Kurt Marko, acts as Charles and Raven’s stepfather.

In school Charles is both intellectually and athletically gifted. In high school he runs track and graduates at the age of sixteen. He attends college at Harvard university and decides to pursue academics rather than sport. At the age of twenty one he graduates with a triple major with honors in genetics, biophysics, and psychology. As a reward to himself he spends the next two years traveling Europe and it’s during this time that he decides to fully pursue his passion for genetics. After receiving his Master’s degree, Charles moves back to the United Kingdom with Raven where he pursues his doctorate at Oxford.

After completing his thesis on genetic mutation, he was approached by the CIA for help in stopping a mutant named Sebastian Shaw, who was working with the Soviet Union. He and Raven to the agency that mutants existed and Shaw was a threat. Though the chief refused their help, another agent agreed to sponsor them.

Charles accompanied an assault team to arrest Shaw on his yacht. During this time, Charles' telepathy was blocked by Emma Frost. When Shaw escaped in a submarine, Charles prevented Erik Lensherr from killing himself in an attempt to stop it and brought him back to their hidden CIA facility. There he used a mutant locating device designed by Hank McCoy called Cerebro to find and recruit mutants for training to stop Shaw. He and Lensherr traveled around the world discovering various mutants, not all of whom accepted the offer of training.

Erik and Charles tried once again to capture Shaw, who was scheduled to attend a meeting in the USSR. They discovered that Frost had attended the meeting in his place, and interrogated her instead. She revealed that Shaw intended to spark a third world war to wipe out humanity, leaving mutants as the dominant species. Meanwhile, other Hellfire Club mutants attacked and destroyed the hidden facility. Charles relocated the mutants to train at his family mansion. During their stay there, Charles helped Erik reach new heights of his magnetic ability and the two grew to be close friends.

Charles and his team was called to action during the Cuban Missile Crisis when Shaw orchestrated a stand-off between US and Soviet navel forces. While on the team's jet, Charles took mental control of a Soviet officer and had the man destroy the freighter, averting a nuclear catastrophe. Erik pulled Shaw's submarine from the water. The submarine and the Blackbird jet both crashed shortly after, which is where Charles was pulled through the Tesseract.

Special abilities:
Charles is a powerful telepath, meaning that he can read the thoughts of others, see what they see as it happens, or project his own thoughts into their minds. He can learn a skill by reading it in the mind of someone adept and subsequently teach by projecting the same skill. How well someone picks up this ability once taught is up to them.

Charles’ powers enable him to manipulate the minds of others, make himself seem invisible, project mental illusions, cause memory loss, and induce pain or paralysis in others. He can also mentally communicate with animals or share their perceptions. He can also telepathically strip people of their natural functions and senses, or even mutant powers. A side effect of his telepathy is that he has a photographic memory.

Charles can also perceive the brain waves of other mutants within a small radius of himself. To detect mutants to a wider area beyond this radius, he must amplify his powers through Cerebro or a device which amplifies his power.

After the publishing of his thesis, Charles became a world renowned geneticist. He is an expert on mutation and life sciences and has some knowledge in using machinery to enhance and control mutant abilities. He has the capacity to be a very dangerous hand to hand fighter, as he would be able to sense another’s moves before they make them or stop a person from moving altogether. He was also once a competitive track athlete and keeps himself in very good shape, particularly for running.

Third-person sample:
He had asked to be let in, and now Charles wondered if he would ever find his way out. He finds himself falling into darkness with no light ahead. The only thing he can feel is his heart pound and the intense sense of fear swallowing him whole. He screams and stretches out his arms for a hope that he knows he will never reach, yet somehow he can’t give up the thought. Charles needs this sanctuary, if only for a minute. Anything to stop his world from spinning, from this blackness.

And then it stops. He slams face first into a hard surface, knees and outstretched palms doing nothing to break his fall. He stumbles forward as rain pours around him and before he can stand to his full height the butt of a rifle connects with his back. Though he can’t see her, he knows that a woman looks over her shoulder at him as she is forcibly pushed away. Charles stretches forward again and every fear he once had surges into a feeling of pure hatred. He’s never felt this kind of malice before, but he knows that there is no other action left. As his body fills with this emotion he is unceremoniously pushed away, out of Erik’s mind and back into the safe confines of the mansion. He holds a hand across his abdomen as he reminds himself how to breathe.

Tomorrow Erik will ask Charles what he knows about him. The answer will be “everything.”
